“Something I wish people knew more about Black History is that if you arrive at college with little knowledge of it, that’s ok! You’re not alone. Black History is rarely, if ever, presented to elementary and high school students, but it is a vital component of American History and it is never too late to tap into the rich history,” said Jeff Brown, director of the African American Academic Network.
Each February, the university comes together to organize several events to honor and celebrate the achievements of African Americans. In addition to these celebrations, there are many departments and organizations across campus to continue your knowledge of Black History throughout the year.
If a student or staff member wants to learn more about Black History, there are a number of campus departments and organizations that offer great resources, such as the African American Studies department, the African-American Cultural Center, and the Black Student Union.
